Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) appoints Albert Polman to the Board

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) has elected Albert Polman, group leader at AMOLF and professor at the University of Amsterdam, as member of the board as of September 1. In the board, Albert will represent the Domain Natural Sciences and Technology as the successor of Ton van der Steen, whose term ends on that date.

First ANION Symposium with strong community spirit and collaboration

Electrochemists working on nanoscale electrochemical interfaces came together in Amsterdam to share recent findings and explore new collaboration opportunities. The ANION Symposium was the first edition organized by the Advanced Netherlands Institute of Nanoelectrochemistry (ANION), with AMOLF and UvA as co-organizers. The symposium took place on Friday, October 31.

Research highlights

Cathodoluminescence research advances measurements of light matter interactions

Researchers in the Photonic Materials group have published their latest findings using cathodoluminescence techniques to measure free electrons moving along a metal surface. The paper ‘Angle-resolved cathodoluminescence interferometry of plasmonic and dielectric scatterers’ is published in the journal Nano Letters on September 18th. The technique can be used for more precise measurements that will benefit computer chip production.

Collaboration

AMOLF, CWI, and DIFFER launch HELIOS project with NWO-I funding

An AMOLF collaboration with CWI and DIFFER has received funding from NWO-I to launch a joint project: HELIOS: AI-guided materials discovery facility for solar energy materials. On Friday, May 23rd, representatives from the three institutes gathered for the kick-off meeting to discuss the roadmap toward developing a highly efficient multilayered halide perovskite solar cell.
