Photonic Materials
Group leader: Prof.dr. Albert Polman
Our research theme is: nanophotonics, the control, understanding and application of light at the nanoscale. Our research program includes the study of dispersion and light concentration in metallo-dielectric plasmonic structures and optical metamaterials, the control of spontaneous emission and light scattering in optical microcavities, light emission from silicon using rare earth ions or silicon quantum dots, and photovoltaics.
Our main focus is on fundamental studies of optical phenomena and in some cases we demonstrate prototype devices as well.
