First ANION Symposium with strong community spirit and collaboration
Electrochemists working on nanoscale electrochemical interfaces came together in Amsterdam to share recent findings and explore new collaboration opportunities. The ANION Symposium was the first edition organized by the Advanced Netherlands Institute of Nanoelectrochemistry (ANION), with AMOLF and UvA as co-organizers. The symposium took place on Friday, October 31.
AMOLF opens its doors to the public for Wetenschapsdag
What a wonderful Wetenschapsdag we have had on October 4th! The visitors were enthusiastic and eager to take part in lab tours, workshops, and other activities. Many were returning guests, while lots of new faces discovered the Amsterdam Science Park campus for the first time. As the cherry on top, the sun came out unexpectedly.
Vibrant Metamaterials2025
The conference Metamaterials2025 brought together 400 researchers from around the world to share their results and vision. Metamaterials was held at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam from September 2 – 6.
Infomatter symposium: taking advantage of information in a system
On Thursday, May 22nd, AMOLF organized the Infomatter Symposium to discuss exciting developments in information processing — ranging from biochemical to mechanical and optical systems. What these systems share is that they do not rely on conventional computers. This is a significant advantage, given that the energy cost of computing is rising much faster than that of energy production.
NanoLab Operator Day brings together operators
On May 7th, AMOLF NanoLab hosted an Operator Day for fellow operators from the four NanoLabNL locations in the Netherlands. In the afternoon, groups from Groningen, Delft, Eindhoven, and Enschede arrived to meet their colleagues and share experiences. The program included a mix of lectures, discussions, and lab tours.
OrganoidNL Symposium 2025: Exploring the future of organoid research
On April 11, 2025, AMOLF hosted the third edition of the OrganoidNL Symposium, bringing together researchers from across the Netherlands and abroad to discuss the latest developments in organoid biology. Following its successful launch in 2023, the event has grown into an important platform for sharing knowledge, building collaborations, and exploring the scientific and medical potential of organoids.
Bas Overvelde shows soft robots on TV program ‘Het Klokhuis’
On January 2, group leader Bas Overvelde appeared on the TV program Het Klokhuis. In the program, which is aimed at children, Bas explained what soft robots are and what they can do.
