ERC Starting Grant for Said Rodriguez
AMOLF group leader Said Rodriguez (Interacting Photons) has received a Starting Grant of 1.5 million Euros from the European Research Council (ERC). The project is entitled “Strongly CORrelated Polaritons In Optoelectronic Nanostructures” (SCORPION), and it will last 5 years. The ERC uses this grant to support talented early-career scientists who have already produced excellent research, and show potential to be a research leader. Rodriguez will use the grant to study phase transitions of strongly coupled light and matter. Conventional phase transitions of matter, such as boiling, freezing, and condensation, display some of the most fascinating collective behavior found in nature. Rodriguez aims to achieve similar effects for light and matter simultaneously, by making matter strongly interact with light confined between two mirrors.
Veni grants for Eline Hutter and Sven Askes
The Dutch Research Council (NWO) awarded Veni grants to AMOLF postdocs Eline Hutter (Hybrid Solar Cells group) and Sven Askes (Nanoscale Solar Cells group).
International award for research on symbiotic networks
AMOLF group leader Tom Shimizu (Systems Biology) and colleagues from the Netherlands, USA and Japan have received a 1.2 million dollar research grant from the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP).
Cum Laude for Hugo Doeleman
On January 18th Hugo Doeleman defended his PhD thesis ‘Hybrid resonators for light trapping and emission control’ at the University of Amsterdam.
WISE fellow Kristina Ganzinger starts new research group at AMOLF
On September 1st, Kristina Ganzinger will start as tenure track group leader. Ganzinger comes to AMOLF with a WISE fellowship, which is part of an NWO program for excellent female researchers. With her research group Physics of Cellular Interactions, she reinforces the Living Matter department headed by Gijsje Koenderink.
WIN Rising Star Award for Bruno Ehrler
Bruno Ehrler (group leader Hybrid Solar Cells) has won the WIN Rising Star Award of the year 2018. The prize is a new initiative from the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN), part of the Canadian University of Waterloo on the occasion of the 10 year anniversary of the WIN. As the inaugural winner, Ehrler received the prize in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of novel solar cell materials and devices.
NWO Vidi grant awarded to Wim Noorduin
AMOLF group leader Wim Noorduin is one of the 86 researchers who received a NWO Vidi grant that is worth 800.000 euros. This grant allows Noorduin to further expand his research on versatile growth for functional materials.
Femius Koenderink wins 2018 ACS Photonics Young Investigator Award Lectureship
Femius Koenderink (head of the AMOLF Center for Nanophotonics) is the winner of the 2018 ACS Photonics Young Investigator Award Lectureship. This lectureship honors the contributions to the photonics research field of a researcher that is in the first 5 to 10 years of his or her career.
