Virtual laboratory

The Macromolecular Ion Physics group participates in the BSIK funded Virtual Laboratory for e-science. The virtual laboratory provides access to the Dutch national computational resources and allows research in new approaches to deal with the extremely large datasets generated by the high resolution mass spectrometers at AMOLF. In addition, new knowledge and information management tools are developed that facilitate global multidisciplinary molecular imaging research. The tools are brought together in KnowEx, the GRID enabled knowledge exchange platform of AMOLF (knowex.amolf.nl). Knowex is a knowledge base and experiment tracking system with high-performance computation capabilities made as a collaboration platform for distributed scientific groups ranging from small laboratories within a research institution to virtual organizations scattered over the globe. Features include sophisticated customizable data entry templates with big document and data file uploads, discussion paths, rated solution indication, links to external data sources, secured access, integration with applications hosted on high-performance computation clusters, web portal and standalone applications for performance data entry and browsing information discovery.
