The criteria

1. Registration is possible as an individual participant or as a pair. The organisation will then form teams of four participants. The formation of the teams cannot be changed without the organisation’s permission.

2. The teams are supposed to keep to the deadlines and formats provided by the organisation. The jury is entitled to disqualify teams if they deviate from the specified rules.

3. The intellectual property of the generated ideas rests for 50% with the specific team, and for the remaining 50% with AMOLF. If either party considers marketing their idea, they shall immediately discuss this prospect with the other party. If the other party is also interested, a joint plan will be prepared. In this case, AMOLF guarantees the necessary support and financing of the marketing plan. If AMOLF forgoes this option, the shared ownership from AMOLF will be transfered to the team without any compensation.

4. The jury’s task is to select the best idea, basing her judgement on the following criteria:

  • the idea is innovative, i.e. has a clear added value with respect to existing products or technologies;

  • the idea works, i.e. has a working demo, or the principle of the action has been sufficiently proven;

  • the idea serves a social/economic need, i.e. target groups with a probable demand for the product or the technology, have been identified;

  • the idea is to be presented in a convincing and professional manner.

5. The jury will motivate all decisions, and communicate them.

6. It is not possible to object to the jury’s decisions.

7. The winning team receives 750 euros net per participant. The team with the second place receives 500 euros. A third price two hundred and fifty euros net per participant is rewarded following voting by the audience.

8. That which is not covered by these regulations, will be decided by the organisation of the Invention Contest, or by the AMOLF management.
